This is the O.C. contest that I'll be holding here.
I hope people enter it.
Just to let people know an O.C. is an Original Character of your own making. No fancharacters please!

The Hats are off!
I think its time to get this train-wreck in the making a moving now.
Yay, this contest is based on Hatters. If you have no idea as to what one is here’s a very simple explanation for you.
A Hatter is a person or being who, users their Hat as a weapon in battle. Hats are difficult weapons to use so only the best warriors can use them.

The Story:
Zechariah Battenberg the current Grand Hatter, has no heir to succeed him should he die. So he has set up a contest for the other Hatters to prove which one of them is worthy to be his heir.
Of course the winner will not only receive that, but also one of the most powerful weapons in existent the Zezerroff Sword. Yep its really good sword.
The contest will be held in a arena of sorts that can be changed for different situations, but it doesn’t have to be.

The Process:
Ok then, to enter the contest all you have to do is let me know ether through a comment or a note to me, which ever is easiest for you to do.
You must make a reference sheet for you O.C. and their Hat. This can be as simple or as detailed as you like. e.g. a drawing of your O.C. with their Hat on, with some labels. But please try to be original with it.

You have two months to get your entries in.
SO you have until the 1st of July to get your entries in.

What we're looking for: Creativity! Originality, an engaging story and an appealing execution of said story. What the story is and how it’s told takes precedence over art quality of the entry, as it is, in the end, what helps us get to know your character and what propels the story forward.

The Prizes:
1st place prizes:
Their O.C. will from this point onwards wield the Zazerroff Sword.
A 3-month subscription to Deviant art.
A finale comic drawn by me.
And 1 month’s mention in my journal.

2nd place prizes:
A very good drawing of their O.C.
I month’s mention in my journal.
has said that they would make a black and white drawing for the person whom comes in second.

3rd place prizes:
A good drawing of their O.C.
1 month’s mention in my journal.
has said that they might produce a full colour pic for 3rd. Might.

Everyone whom enters gets a drawing of his or her O.C. so that no one walks away empty-handed feeling rubbish. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place drawings though will be coloured in. The rest will be sketches in black and white. Well it’s better than nothing.


The Rules:

1. This contest is free for anyone to enter, just send a comment or note if you want to take part to me.
2. Once you enter you can’t back out by quitting. You must see it through to the end. (unless of course you have a truly valid reason like someone's dying or your really sick, but if you just don't want to continue with the contest you're not allowed to quit.)
3. Enjoy it as there’s a prize at the end of it for everyone. ^w^

Characters:
1. 1. Fancharacters will be turned away at the door. Nothing from any popular    franchise’s universe, unless of course, it is your own franchise. OCs of any kind are allowed, so your O.C can enter and kick butt with their own special skill if they’d like, unless it’s a magic attack.
2. Magic isn’t allowed, as this is a weapon-based contest so yeah just fighting skills, but special attacks are allowed.
3. Characters can use familiars, doppelgangers, separate entities, etc. Squads of OC’s squishing into ‘one’ combatant slot are allowed, but each fight must feature one main OC which will be the fighter, and the others may offer only minimal support. The focus should always be on your main combatant. And using such “back-up” can only be used once in the whole contest so think really carefully before you use them.
4. Your O.C.’s can have other weapons, but it’s the Hat that’s the important one. Other weapons like swords, bows and arrows. Guns on the other hand will be limited to pistols at the most if it makes sense for your O.C. to have them, but no other guns please.
5. Your O.C. doesn't have to be a human, it can be any sort of creature as long as it can throw its Hat. Why it has to be able to do this will be explained in the 'Hats" rules section below.

Hats (The Hatters’ trademark weapon):
1. Hats are alive and can move around of their own accord if they want to that is. Each Hat must have at lest one eye (their can be more) and a mouth. Since the Hats are alive they can have apersonaility and be able to speak.
2. There’s something’s that are head wear but aren’t Hats e.g. Hoods, bandagers etc.. If your O.C. you enter isn’t wearing a Hat or another type of headwear we’ll let you know about and ask you to change it. Please don’t take it personally as this is a contest based on Hatters, so yeah it has to be a Hat.
3. The only one whom can wear your O.C.’s Hat is your O.C. simple really.
4. To use a Hat in battle you must throw it at your opponent, which it’ll become a many bladed boomerang of sorts that can cut through almost anything, but your O.C. had best catch it when its on it’s way back or they’ll be most likely be cut in half.
Not all Hats become deadly boomerangs, some can become sheilds or swords.

Battles:
1. Battles can be done one-shot portrait style or in comic format. Though there is a trend of comic format entries always doing much better, so just realize from the get-go, that’s the type of thing to get noticed. They are encouraged. This contest should be, after all, about expanding your artistic horizons, and there’s nothing like trying your hand at comics to learn you a thing or two about perspective, composition, pacing.. and of course backgrounds. Although we’re allowing written pieces as well, because let’s face it in order to draw a comic you also have to be able to write.
2. Comics don’t have to be in colour. Of course a masterfully coloured/grayscaled entry is going to stand a much better chance than flat pencils, but it’s entirely up to you and what you feel most comfortable with.
3. Battles don’t necessarily have to end in death. Nor are they going to be judged by gore, badassery or cleverness alone. It just needs to be a ‘defeat’. We’re looking for creativity here, an overall high standard in all categories, or whatever makes your art ‘you’. If you err on the side of comedy, be funny. If you like super gore, go for it. (Try to stay decent with accordance of the rules on DA..) The main thing is, bring yourself to the table here, with your own cards laid out, the way you want them. And do it with some pizzazz.
Long story short, just show your original character defeating who you are matched up with. And make the judges want to see more
